Take the Cataract Surgery Tour

A cataract is a cloudiness in the lens of the eye. A normal lens is clear and focuses light into the back of the eye. When a cataract develops some of this light is blocked out and/or scattered. As this cataract develops, it becomes harder for a person to see.

Restoring Clear Vision

Cataract surgery is one of the safest and most successful of all surgeries. By placing a small incision in the eye, we remove the cataract by a process called phacoemulsification. Your surgeon uses sound waves or laser to disintegrate the cataract and then vacuums the particles from the eye. At the same time the cataract is removed, the lens of the eye is replaced with a crystal clear lens implant, which is inserted through the same small incision. With the new lens in place, the eye can function properly and normal vision is restored.

Dr. Harman is one of the most experienced eye surgeons in Virginia. He has performed over 20,000 intraocular surgeries since 1988.

The No-Stitch Technique

With the no-stitch cataract removal technique, the incision is very small and angled in a way which will enable it to close on its own. The outward pressure from the fluid within the eye acts as a seal, so there is no need for stitches. Once the incision is made, the surgeon dissolves the cataract, inserts an artificial lens through the same incision and allows pressure to seal the incision naturally.

Quick Recovery

No-stitch cataract surgery enables the eye to heal fast and reduces recovery time significantly. In addition, post-operative activities are practically unlimited. A virtually pain-free local anesthesia is used, and most patients can walk right out of the Eye Surgery Center shortly after surgery and perform most of their daily functions with no restrictions.

Premium Implants

Reclaim your precious sight with premium implants from Harman Eye Center. They’re multi-focal lenses that replace your eye’s natural lens. And in most cases, they omit the need for any visual aids, including reading glasses. The procedure is safe and works to restore your vision to those more youthful days. Click here for details.
